Are you weaving or planting?
The word basketry describes what willow can be used for. It does not tell you whether a bundle is dry weaving material or living planting stock. Choosing the right form is the first step.
| Your plan | Start here |
|---|---|
| Make baskets or woven pieces | Dried basketry willow rods, prepared for weaving according to the material and project. |
| Grow your own willow | Live willow plants and cuttings, selected for the use you have in mind. |
| Source material for a restoration project | Restoration willow inquiries, with the species and stock specifications your project requires. |
Choose rods for your kind of work
Length, thickness and condition matter as much as color. Before ordering, check the selected option's dimensions, bundle quantity and intended use. A bundle for structural work is a different purchase from fine weaving material.
Our Etsy shop includes named dried basketry varieties such as Whissender, Kaat and Basfordiana. Follow the listing for its current options and availability, or compare our dried willow offerings.
A little planning makes ordering easier
- Have your pattern or project dimensions handy.
- Check whether the listing is for dried rods, fresh-cut stems or rooted plants.
- Check the bundle's quantity and size options before adding it to your cart.
- Ask about timing before ordering for a class or a date-sensitive project.
Can I weave with dried willow straight from the package?
Dried basketry willow needs preparation before weaving. Follow the directions for your material, allowing time for soaking and mellowing where required. Fresh-cut planting material is a different product.
